Designing Daily Dons: From the SNF Floor to Your Family's Home

Daily Dons didn't start as a product idea. It started as a frustration: watching families leave the facility completely unprepared for the one thing that was going to happen every single morning.

What I kept seeing on discharge day

As a DPT working in skilled nursing facilities, I was part of hundreds of discharge conversations. We covered home safety, mobility equipment, medication, fall prevention. We almost never covered dressing, because everyone assumed the family would figure it out.

They didn't figure it out. I'd get calls from patients' families two or three days after discharge: their loved one had fallen trying to get dressed. Or they'd spent 45 minutes on what should have been a five-minute task and both of them were exhausted before the day even started. Or the caregiver had thrown out their back.

Why existing options weren't solving it

There are other options out there. But most of them look like they belong in a hospital. Loud hook-and-loop closures that sound like you're opening a medical supply package. Cuts and colors that signal illness rather than normalcy. Patients recovering from a health crisis don't want clothing that makes them feel like a patient at home too.

I wanted something built around the log-roll: full compatibility, no lifting required, one caregiver, but that looked completely normal. Something a grown adult could wear without a second thought.

What Daily Dons is now

The Daily Short opens completely flat: the patient lies on top of it in bed, and the caregiver rolls them to dress with a single log-roll sequence. It closes with one motion and looks like normal shorts when done. Machine washable, soft against sensitive skin, built for the reality of recovery at home.

The name comes from that first morning. Daily, because it happens every day. Dons, because you're putting them on. It sounds simple. But for families navigating the first weeks after discharge, it's everything.
